The Kingdom of Bahrain Ranks in the First Global Tier Group in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI)
The Kingdom of Bahrain has ranked in the top-tier “Role-Modelling” category in the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI). The GCI was released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which ranked 194 countries worldwide.
His Excellency Sheikh Salman bin Mohammed AlKhalifa, CEO of the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC), affirmed that this international achievement is a result of the support extended to the NCSC under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa AlKhalifa, closely monitored by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad AlKhalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and dedication given by His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad AlKhalifa, National Security Advisor, Commander of Bahrain's Royal Guard and Secretary General of the Supreme Defense Council.
H.E. Sheikh Salman noted that these steps were instrumental in strengthening the Kingdom’s digital infrastructure and enhancing its cybersecurity readiness to keep pace with technological advancements, emphasizing that cybersecurity is a pivotal pillar of national security and economic development.
H.E. Sheikh Salman stated that the Kingdom’s classification reflects the level of protection given to data, networks and digital infrastructure. This achievement aligns with the NCSC’s national strategy, which is built on fundamental pillars forming an integrated framework to ensure a secure and trusted cyberspace in the Kingdom. It also reinforces the Kingdom’s position as a technologically advanced nation in the fields of cybersecurity and data protection.
H.E. Sheikh Salman also emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to innovation and creativity through national initiatives and strategic plans designed to develop Bahraini talent. This focus on human capital represents a strategic investment in future opportunities and plays a vital role in establishing a resilient and trusted cyberspace, in alignment with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
The GCI evaluates countries’ efforts in addressing cyber risks based on their commitment across five key pillars: Legal, Technical, Cooperative, Organizational and Capacity Building Measures. Rankings are determined by assessing each country’s progress and implementation within these core areas.
